What it’s good for
Grammarly checks your writing as you type. It flags grammar mistakes, unclear sentences and tone, and it works in your browser and in a lot of apps, so it follows you into email, docs and social posts.
Quick heads up on the name. In Oct 2025 the company behind Grammarly renamed itself Superhuman. Grammarly is still the same app at the same address. It’s now one part of a bigger Superhuman suite.
Who it’s for
Anyone who writes a lot for work or school, and people writing in English as a second language.
Watch out for
- The free plan covers the basics. Pro is $12, but I couldn’t confirm the billing period on their page, so check it before you pay.
- Don’t accept every suggestion. Sometimes it smooths out your own voice.
- It reads what you type. At work, check that your company is OK with it.
How it compares
ChatGPT and Claude are better for writing a first draft. Grammarly is better for polishing what you already wrote, right where you’re typing. More in Grammarly alternatives.
Before you pay
Use the free version for a while. If you keep wishing you had the Pro suggestions, that’s when to upgrade.
