What it’s good for
ChatGPT is the one most people start with, and that makes sense. It handles everyday writing, brainstorming, quick explanations and help with code, all in one chat. It can also make images and talk with you by voice.
It’s made by OpenAI. If you only ever try one AI tool, this is a fine first pick.
Who it’s for
Anyone who wants one general assistant and doesn’t want to think hard about which tool to use. It’s also a good place to learn how to write prompts, since most guides online assume ChatGPT.
Watch out for
- It can sound sure of itself and still be wrong. Check facts, numbers and quotes before you use them anywhere.
- The free version has limits. Heavy use will push you toward a paid plan.
- The Go plan may show ads. Plus is the plan with the bigger limits, so check which one you actually need.
- Don’t paste in private or work info you aren’t allowed to share. Check your settings for how your chats are used.
How it compares
Claude is my pick for long documents and careful writing. Gemini makes more sense if you live in Gmail and Google Docs. For research where you want sources you can click, Perplexity is better. I also have a side-by-side page: ChatGPT vs Claude.
Before you pay
Use the free version on your real work for a week. If you keep hitting the limit, that’s your answer. The paid plans are Go, Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, so you don’t have to jump to the top one.
